Friday mornings with Coach Miriam …
Good morning! I am beginning a blog and will post on Friday mornings. I want to inspire you, to encourage you, to share tips and tools in order to live a life with more purpose and meaning. Feel free to share with friends and family.
Grab a cup of coffee; I want to share the power of journaling.
Journaling was the first thing I started when I began my journey of self discovery.
I was on a journey to discover my path; to find the answer to the question why I am here, to become more honest with myself, to discover what I am designed to do and to step out and use my unique talents and gifts in order to share those with the world. I was getting up at 5:00 a.m. to write in my journal, sharing my thoughts with my Creator, and this is what happened while journaling:
1. Brought clarity; I began data dumping from my head to paper, I was releasing all the thoughts that were cluttering my mind. By writing down my questions, my fears, my frustrations, I was clearing my head. I was connecting with my Creator who loves me so much, giving these thoughts to Him was a release for me.
2. Found answers; I would ask my heavenly Father specific questions and would remain still and quiet for a few minutes and the answer would come or a thought would come. To give you an example; at the time I had my own CPA practice and I needed more clients, when I asked for that, the name of a woman came to mind whom I knew from church, I called her the next day and she told me she just lost her CPA and needed someone. I found a new client. That is just one example.
3. Gained peace; as I journaled I could actually feel the burdens being lifted off of my shoulders and gaining strength and even began sitting taller in my chair. My journey led to quitting my job at age 50 and I wanted to start a new business. At the time I quit, my husband and I had 3 mortgages; one residence and two rental properties, the cash flow issue was scary and overwhelming. I journaled, I prayed. Journaling gave me the peace that all was going to work out and it did. One year later we sold one of the rental properties in the down turn real estate market when no one was buying.
I have learned to take my journaling to the next level. I now write, “Father, what do you want to teach me today?” and just let the pen flow on the page. What will come out of that experience maybe a scripture, an old hymn, a word, it is always something amazing and speaks to my soul for that particular day.
These are just 3 reasons to journal, the rewards are endless. You can see it is like a magic pill, good for the heart and soul. I encourage you to journal, even if it is for 5 minutes. I journal in the morning because it prepares my mind and attitude for the day.
